Public Health Notification of a Positive COVID-19 Case In-Community

On September 15, 2020, the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) was notified that an individual has tested positive for COVID-19 within the community of Kasabonika Lake First Nation. A positive result in the family of a community worker from outside the community has been confirmed. The individual will be assessed and offered repeat testing. The individual will then strictly self-isolate. All members of the relevant social pod will be assessed and offered testing, if symptomatic, and self-isolate. Asymptomatic members will self-isolate until results of those tested are obtained.

The SLFNHA Approaches to Community Wellbeing – Preventing Infection Diseases (PID) team is working with community health staff to support the public health management of the case. Contact tracing has started and the SLFNHA PID team is working closely with health staff to prevent the spread of infection. An update of the situation will be provided as soon as more information is confirmed.

We continue to encourage adhering to public health measures. This includes: physical distancing, handwashing, wearing masks/face covering in public where physical distancing cannot be maintained, staying in our circles as much as possible, and avoiding unnecessary travel.

If you have any community member with symptoms that could be caused by COVID-19, please contact your nursing station to be assessed as a matter of urgency.
