COVID-19 Update- Case in Sioux Lookout-March 12, 2021

The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) has been notified that there is a case of Covid-19 in Sioux Lookout. The individual is a vulnerable person and is isolating in Sioux Lookout at this time. While the case is outside the jurisdiction of SLFNHA, we support the measures that will ensure adequate and aggressive contact tracing occurs.

The Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) is responsible for the case and contact management in Sioux Lookout. Mobile teams have been deployed to assist with contact tracing. Every effort is being made to reach out to the vulnerable population to offer education, assistance and testing. We appreciate concerns that the leadership and community members have about their loved ones in this vulnerable community. Current efforts will keep their wellbeing at the centre as we work to prevent spread of the virus in Sioux Lookout. A number of local agencies are collaborating to support the NWHU.
We, in concert with the NWHU, will keep communities informed as this situation develops.
As always, we continue to encourage adhering to public health measures. This includes: physical distancing, handwashing, wearing masks/face covering in public where physical distancing cannot be maintained, staying in our social bubbles, and avoiding unnecessary travel.
We emphasize the importance of avoiding the 3 Cs: close contact, crowds and closed spaces.
